Editing Out West

I’ve worked as a freelance writer and editor since 1982. Work I have either written or edited has appeared in college journals, weekly newspapers, on screen, and on stage.

Seeing the Promise of the Future

Maureen Cooke

I specialize in academic editing, specifically editing doctoral dissertations to ensure that they pass the stringent requirements of the candidate’s university, college, and school.

Most university’s individual schools require that doctoral dissertations adhere to a modified version of APA formatting. Frequently, those modifications include the formatting of tables, such as size of font, line spacing, and whether grid lines are to be open at the top or closed.

My rate for editing a doctoral dissertation to ensure that it adheres to the university’s individual school’s formatting requirements is generally $3 per page.

To ensure that the dissertation is also well-written, correctly punctuated, and free of grammatical mistakes is generally $4 per page.

Most doctoral dissertations are 200 to 300 pages, so the total charge to ensure that your dissertation adheres to the university’s individual school’s specific requirements will cost between $600 and $1200 depending on the editing service you choose.

However, from now until the end of September, I am discounting that rate by 25%. So the total cost will be between $450 and $900, depending on which editing service you choose.
